Our modern office beside Leith Links offers flexible working spaces, regular social events and a supportive, collaborative culture.The RoleWe're looking for an Engineering Manager to lead and grow our engineering team behind our SaaS platform.Reporting to the Technical Director, you'll lead a team of eight engineers with a focus on people leadership, delivery and engineering excellence. While this is primarily a leadership role, you'll remain technically credible and comfortable discussing architecture, reviewing approaches and coaching engineers on best practices.Our established platform is built on PHP (Silex/Symfony/Laravel) and MySQL, and we're continuing to enhance functionality, modernise our technology stack and embed AI into both our product and engineering practices.This role is ideal for someone who enjoys developing people, improving team performance and helping build great software that customers rely on every day.What You'll Be DoingLead and Develop EngineersLine manage, coach and mentor a team of engineersConduct regular one-to-ones, development discussions and performance reviewsFoster a culture of accountability, growth and continuous learningSupport engineers in building confidence, capability and ownershipKeep Delivery HealthyHelp squads deliver work predictably and sustainablySupport planning, prioritisation, capacity management and risk mitigationIdentify blockers early and facilitate effective solutionsEnsure delivery plans and trade-offs remain visible and realisticRaise Engineering StandardsPartner with Tech Leads and senior engineers to improve development practicesPromote code quality, maintainability, consistency and effective code reviewsCoach engineers on sound engineering principles and best practicesCollaborate Across TeamsWork closely with Product Managers, QA and leadership teamsCommunicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholdersSupport cross-functional delivery across Product, Engineering and QA squadsDrive Continuous ImprovementIdentify and remove friction that slows teams downImprove processes and ways of working without adding unnecessary bureaucracyBuild practical habits that improve delivery and quality over timeWhat We're Looking ForStrong software engineering background, ideally in PHP, Laravel, MySQL and SaaS platformsPrevious experience leading, mentoring or managing engineersTechnical credibility and sound engineering judgementStrong understanding of software delivery, testing and quality practicesExcellent stakeholder management and communication skillsAbility to improve team effectiveness and delivery processesInterest in leveraging AI to improve engineering workflows and product capabilitiesWorking With AIAI is an increasingly important part of both our products and our day-to-day engineering practices.
