The platform is being built to be scalable, secure, and user-centric, supporting high traffic volumes, complex workflows, and long-term growth.Eligibility CriteriaApplicants must have the legal right to work in the UKA valid UK residency status is requiredVisa sponsorship is not availableRole OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Back-End Developer with strong Laravel and PHP expertise to play a key role in the development and scaling of our marketplace platform.You will be responsible for designing and building robust, secure, and high-performance backend systems that support core marketplace functionality and evolving business requirements.Key ResponsibilitiesSystem Architecture & DevelopmentDesign and implement scalable, maintainable backend architectureApply SOLID principles, clean code practices, and clear separation of concernsDevelop modular components using service-layer and repository patternsCore Platform FeaturesUser authentication and role-based authorisation (Sanctum/Passport)Service listings (creation, editing, search, filtering)Order lifecycle and transaction managementSecure payment integrations (Stripe, PayPal)Internal messaging, reviews, and dispute resolutionRESTful API development with versioning supportDatabase & PerformanceDesign and maintain efficient, well-structured database schemasOptimise SQL queries, indexing, and prevent N+1 issuesImplement Redis for caching, sessions, and queue systemsMonitor performance and address scalability concernsIntegrations & CollaborationIntegrate third-party services such as payment providers and notificationsWork closely with frontend developers (e.g. Vue.js) to ensure seamless API integrationTesting & MaintenanceWrite and maintain feature and unit tests (PHPUnit/Pest)Troubleshoot and resolve issues across development and production environmentsSupport system stability and continuous improvementTechnical RequirementsCore TechnologiesPHP 8.2+ with strong OOP principlesLaravel (v10–12) with 3+ years' production experienceAdvanced SQL (MySQL/PostgreSQL), query optimisation, indexingRedis for caching, sessions, and queuesArchitecture & ToolingService-layer and repository patternsRESTful API design and authenticationEvent-driven architecture (Laravel Events & Listeners)Git, Composer, PHPUnit/PestCode quality tools (PHP Insights, Pint/CS Fixer)Performance & TestingQuery optimisation and N+1 preventionQueue and memory optimisationTDD mindset and integration testingUnderstanding of code coverage.Required- E-commerce or marketplace platforms (2+ years)- Multi-user role systems and permissions (Spatie or similar)- Payment gateway integrations (Stripe, Braintree, PayPal)- Order/transaction processing workflows- File upload (S3)Job Types: Full-time, PermanentBenefits:Casual dressCompany pensionSick payAbility to commute/relocate:Liverpool L3: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)Application question(s):Do you agree to work on site?Do you require sponsorship in the future?
